Measure 352 – Total Knee Replacement: Preoperative Antibiotic Infusion with Proximal Tourniquet

Audit Criteria

When we’re reviewing your clinicians’ data, it may be helpful to know what we are looking for in order for us to verify to CMS that your data is accurate and complete. Measure 352 requires documentation that the prophylactic antibiotic is completely infused prior to the inflation of the proximal tourniquet.

NOTE: Simply using a proximal tourniquet does not satisfy the requirements of this measure.

This documentation may be found in the patient’s medical record or operative notes. The relevant document should be made available to the auditor for the patient requested.

What are you looking for?

We’re looking for notes indicating that the prophylactic antibiotic is completely infused prior to the inflation of the proximal tourniquet (i.e. “The prophylactic antibiotic was completely infused, then the proximal tourniquet was inflated”).
